The Russian electronic visas (eVisas) are free of charge, and available for certain nationalities to enter the Russian Far East, the Kaliningrad oblast, St. Petersburg and the surrounding Leningrad oblast. They are valid for a stay of maximum 8 days from entry. The visa is available for tourism, business and "sports, cultural, scientific and technological ties", and it can be applied for between 20 and 4 days before the day of entry. While you do not need booked accommodation for this visa, you do need a travel insurance and your passport must have at least 6 months of validity.
Far East eVisas are available to citizens of Algeria, Bahrain, Brunei, China, India, Iran, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Tunisia, Turkey, and the UAE. Kaliningrad Oblast eVisas are available to citizens of all European Union countries (except the United Kingdom), Andorra, China, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, North Korea, North Macedonia, Norway, Oman, Philippines, Qatar, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Taiwan, Turkey, Switzerland and Vatican City. Entry is through Khrabovo Airport, the land borders of Bagrationovsk, Gusev, Mamonovo (Gronowo), Mamonovo (Grzechotki), Morskoe, Pogranichny, Sovetsk, and Chernyshevskoye, the Mamonovo and Sovetsk railway stations, and the ports of Kaliningrad, Baltiysk and Svetly.
The following nationalities are eligible to apply for eVisas: EU countries, Andorra, Bahrain, China, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kuwait, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, North Korea, North Macedonia, Norway, Oman, Philippines, Qatar, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, Vatican City. The ports of entry for this scheme are the airport and ports of St. Petersburg, port of Vysotsk, and the road border stations with Finland and Estonia to Leningrad Oblast. Entry by train or through the port of Vyborg is not possible under this scheme.
Starting on January 1, 2021, eVisa is planned to provide access to any part of the country.

Dette gjelder for inntil 8 dager og foreløpig kun fjernt i øst, Kaliningrad og Leninskaya Oblast (St. Petersburg fylke) og i praksis kan man gjøre en rundtur fra Tallinn, over Narva (grenseby) nordover gjennom St. Petersburg og inn ved Vyborg til Finland. Et slikt visum stiller ikke krav til booking av overnatting eller "detaljstyring" av turen sålenge en holder seg innenfor de 8 dagene (du vil ikke overstå et visum i Russland).
En liten dags kjøring til startpunkt og deretter ei langhelg i Kaliningrad før en dagsreise hjem igjen. Burde vel kanskje la seg gjøre allerede i mai
